I Know Why Diets Don’t Work…

I Know Why Diets Don’t Work…

for me! If only I had a quarter for every time I said “diets don’t work for me’ or “I’ve tried them all” or I must have bad metabolism” or “It’s my age” . I would truly be a rich fat girl.

The Truth of it All

Truth be told, I don’t think I ever really gave any diet 100%. Want I really wanted was to lose a lot of weight really fast. No diet ever did that so I always gave up and started on my excuses. I read all these claims about losing 5-10 pounds a week and I thought ” THIS diet is for me for sure this time!” I also don’t like exercise. at all. That was another excuse.”I cant lose because I don’t like exercise”.

Facing My Own Truth

About 7 weeks ago I decided (once again) to try again. This time I gave myself a break and my goal was 1 pound of weight loss per week. I figured if I could just stick it out for a month then I would have lost 4 pounds. That’s more than I have ever lost on any diet. I told myself I would really stick it out this time for just 1 month. I see people do it all the time so there’s no reason I cant do it. I was really getting sick and tired of hearing myself make excuses.

The Beginning

Sucked!!! lol! The first two weeks where really hard sometimes. I had a plan. I would stick to 1800 calories a day and no more than 15 grams of fat for the 3 main meals per day. I stocked my house and fridge with low-fat and no-fat foods. This was a huge thing for me. I live alone so it’s pretty easy to just pop in the drive through or go to the pub up the road because I have nothing in the house to eat. I really stocked up so that took care of THAT excuse! I think the best thing I did was I got sliced lean turkey at the deli. I told them to slice it really thick. When I got hungry in between meals or for a snack I had would roll up a turkey slice. Sometimes two. Okay. sometimes 3! But I felt ok with my food choice. I also brought some fresh picked strawberries and slice them up and added Splenda. I would have a small bowl (maybe 3/4 cup) of strawberries with low-fat Cool Whip. I made sugar free Jello because I had watched that on that fat reality show, The Biggest Loser. I did a bunch of food changes like this and I did search the internet a lot for good food choices. After about two weeks the constant craving for food was diminishing (more on this below) and I had lost 3 pounds!

Help in The Beginning

I admit I did have some help in the beginning for cravings and appetite suppressing. I looked on the internet and found Hoodia. I had a reaction to it though so I had to stop taking it. I ended up with a severe sore throat every time I took it. Friends have told me that they have not experienced that side effect so it may be just me.

I also took and still do, the fat binder, Proactol. I think that it helped with my appetite also, but I cant be sure. I know that it works along with sticking to the 1800 calories per day and the low fat grams.

My Weight Loss Today

As of today I have lost 9.5 pounds in 7 weeks!!!!! This is more than my goal so I feel great! It also gives me the incentive to keep going. I may even start exercising! lol! All my friends keep saying if you lost that much just think how much you will lose if you get away from your computer and get active. I think they have a point :)

Keeping At It

Now that I ‘ve lost almost 10 pounds, I have to will to keep at it. I can honestly tell you that if you get through those first two weeks and you REALLY try for that amount of time it does get ALOT easier. Be honest with yourself. Sometimes I have to remind myself to eat now. Before, I could go to McDonalds for supper and then be starving again in a couple of hours. I swear I just kept eating all day and night long. I was starting to get afraid of my own hunger because I couldn’t see it ever slowing down, I just saw it escalate.
